Helbig's portraits and studies of the male body were taken in the 1950s and 1960s and signify much more than just classical pictures from a bygone period of photography.

Homo Sum provides a fascinating insight into Helbig's intimate world, a world full of eroticism and fantasy. His pictures range from sober, almost timid studies to bold and arduous snapshots and classical analysis. Due to his multifaceted talent, Helbig's work has been able to transcend the genre of nude photography and has become one of the timeless highlights of photography. The photography book Homo Sum-"I am human" when translated from Latin-addresses itself to all aficionados of great photography and to all those that love and understand this subtle and mature Eros.

Konrad Helbig was born in 1917 in Leipzig. During the Second World War he served as a soldier in Russia and remained in captivity until 1947. He then studied art history and archeology and traveled widely in the Mediterranean region. Helbig frequently contributed to "Atlantis" and "Merian" and published various photograph books, among them "Ragazzi" (2001, Edition Braus). Konrad Helbig died in 1986 in Mainz.
